Staff sconce made in France in the 1990s and designed by Jean Boggio for Les Héritiers.
This sconce is made of white staff, or plaster mixed with fibrous material, traditionally used in French wall moldings. Les Héritiers are known to use the techniques and materials of artisanal French craft in their production of contemporary designs, a trademark exemplified by this piece. The inverted triangle shape recalls the shape of a torch. The scrolling volumes form a landscape of spirals culminating in small, round points. Each volume reflects light differently, and shadows accentuate the slopes of each scroll. Robust, this piece has a substantial weight and an ornamentation that is both classic and surreal.
