1980s Lacquered Box by Hollis Fingold, Pink & Black, Handmade, Signed USA

Regular price$900.00 Sale price
Large Lacquered box handmade in the 1980s by Hollis Fingold at Radar Design in Denver, Colorado. Airbrushed paint on wood. Signed. Depth: 7", Width: 7", Height: 7.25".

A square-shaped, large Hollis Fingold box with distinctive rounded flat feet. The sculpted wavy handle, like a cartoon TV antenna, has a striking green and black graphite effect that is a hallmark of 1980s radical design. In contrast, the top of the lid is adorned with thin, hot-pink stripes. The body of the box has a generous checkered pattern under layers of light pink airbrushing and delicate raindrop-like spots. Inside, the fabric padding has a radiant bubble-gum pink hue, divided into two halves. There is an airbrushed black checkerboard pattern on one half, while the other half showcases thin, straight black lines. This extraordinary box bears the artist's bold signature in daring electric sky blue beneath the box.

Shaped like alien pets, Hollis Fingold's boxes appear to hover on their four pointy legs, with lid handles resembling punk hairdos. They are sensuous yet dangerous creatures that one must adore to tame and open.
