UGO LA PIETRA

UGO LA PIETRA was a main figure in the foundation of Italian radical design. Difficult to summarize, he’s a Jazz Clarinet player, a painter, a sculptor, a designer of furniture, an architect and a curator. He has worked with Ettore Sottsass, Hans Hollein, Archizoom and Super studio. He was a founding member of the “Global Tools” group in 1973 and organized the first exhibition of radical design in 1974. Awarded many times, including the Compasso d’Oro in 1979, he was also editor of the Domus magazine in the 1980s. In 1988 he published the first book about the work of Gio Ponti. He’s been exhibited over 100 times: at the MOMA in 1972, many times at the Venice Biennale in the 1970s, at Milan Triennale in 1972, at the Centre Pompidou and more.
