Regular price$900.00 Sale price
Large Lacquered box handmade in the 1980s by Hollis Fingold at Radar Design in Denver, Colorado. Airbrushed paint on wood. Signed. Depth: 7", Width: 10", Height: 8".

This larger Hollis Fingold box is a fascinating piece that pays homage to American midcentury modern design and Pop Art. Fingold incorporates the iconic splatter pattern reminiscent of the popular 1950s fiberglass lamp shades. This box also pays tribute to the world of comic books, particularly the bold hatching lines that border and shade the lid and handle's seams. This stylistic choice echoes the dynamic figures found in the style of Lichtenstein's pop art. The colors evoke the vibrant palette often associated with comic books. The body has a captivating green/blue hue enriched with a black, graphite-like texture. Under the box, the neon orange layer comes to life with thin black splatters. When you open it, you'll find a vivid green interior adorned with electric orange splatters. The padded yellow fabric is hand-painted with black lines and orange dots pattern.

Shaped like alien pets, Hollis Fingold's boxes appear to hover on their four pointy legs, with lid handles resembling punk hairdos. They are sensuous yet dangerous creatures that one must adore to tame and open.
