Large 80s Lacquered Box by Hollis Fingold, Checkerboard & Neon Pink, Signed USA
$900.00
Large Lacquered box handmade in the 1980s by Hollis Fingold at Radar Design in Denver, Colorado. Airbrushed paint on wood. Signed. Depth: 7", Width: 10", Height: 8".
The body of this box has an airbrushed black and white checkerboard pattern, evoking the iconic and bold design aesthetics of the radical 1980s. This motif is juxtaposed with vibrant neon pink accents on the lid and feet. Continuing the theme, the interior padding's fabric features an airbrushed checkerboard pattern in black on neon pink. The elongated lid adds an extra dimension to the design with its diagonal black airbrushed stripes over neon pink. These stripes give the entire piece a sense of movement, accentuated by dynamic waves of black splattered dots that scatter across the body, as if it has just leaped into a puddle of paint.
Shaped like alien pets, Hollis Fingold's boxes appear to hover on their four pointy legs, with lid handles resembling punk hairdos. They are sensuous yet dangerous creatures that one must adore to tame and open.
