PHILIPPE STARCK (b. 1949) is known for successfully designing anything from a watch to a boat, a night club or a building. His style is recognizable by its sensual fluid lines, inspired by nature and simplified to their essential geometric forces. His enfant-terrible and pertinent style made him a design star in the mainstream. Philippe Starck designed for Alessi, Kartell, Vitra, Cassina, Flos, Driade / Aleph, XO and Baleri in the field of furniture and industrial design. After graduating at the Parisian architecture school Nissim de Camondo in 1968, he made himself a name designing soon to become internationally cult nightclubs in Paris in the 1980s and the 90s. While working as director of Pierre Cardin’s publishing company, Philippe Starck created his own industrial design company in the 1980s. He started his fame and career as an atypical designer with cult products for Italian companies like Driade, Alessi and Kartell. His Louis Ghost chair for Kartell is the most sold designer chair in the world with 1.5 million sold. His democratic design concept focuses on quality mass-produced designs. His architectural work for commissions is always highly influential and inspirational.
