SHIGERU UCHIDA ( Born in Yokohama, Japan 1943 - 2016 ) is a multi-faceted designer and architect. He founded Uchida Design Studio in 1970, four years after graduating from Kuwasawa Design School in Tokyo in 1966. Since these earliest moments of his career, his work in industrial design, interior design and architecture has been widely awarded. Uchida's work is part of museum permanent collections such as the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He's famous for his minimal furniture, the Yohji Yamamoto and Issey Miyake boutiques, the Kobe Fashion Museum and the Mojiko Hotel that he designed with Aldo Rossi.
