Rare Ghost lamp by Angelo Mangiarotti for Pollux Skipper, Italy 1985, Murano glass by Mazzega.
Each of Mangiarotti’s designs are in perfect balance, like elements in nature. This glass Ghost stands inclined, floating softly over the ground. The handblown Murano fused glass surface spreads the light in revolving circles around its base, filling its surroundings with a soothing light. The glass looks perfectly smooth, but when lit in the dark the light dances in concentric circles. Only the mind of a great master can make that kind of magic happen.
The glass was handblown by A.V. Mazzega, one of the most prestigious Murano art glass makers with Venini Seguso etc

ANGELO MANGIAROTTI (born in Italy, 1921-2012) graduated in architecture at Politecnico di Milano in 1948. He left Italy to work in the USA in 1953 where he met Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe and Konrad Wachsmann, who were all influential on his development. After he returned from the USA in the 1960s, he opened an architecture firm in Milano, Italy and in Tokyo, Japan in 1989. Angelo Mangiarotti was the art director of the Italian crystal company Colle Cristalleria from 1986 to 1992. Multi awarded, he was very prolific in industrial design and architecture, teaching internationally at the same time. One can feel the architect's instincts in his industrial design, and vice versa. Angelo Mangiarotti worked for Knoll, Cassina, Artemide, Vistosi, Molteni, Poltronova, Danese, Skipper.
